Not a Blog, But a Journal

Most blogs feel the same. You find one article, maybe click around, and then leave (if you’re not bombarded by ads first). That’s not what I want this space to be.

In my last note, I wrote about returning to photography and building a feedback loop to study the craft more intentionally. Over the past week, I’ve been asking myself: what kind of place (website) would I actually want to spend time exploring? Not just another blog with “content,” but something personal, sustainable, and alive.

Here’s how I see it going forward, with my website as “the hub”.

  • Landing Page — the vibe-check. Something that feels on-brand and representative of the kinds of photos I love to make at a glance.  A “digital business card”.

  • Notes — the written word, the backbone of the site. Think of this as journal entries: photo logs of “keepers,” reviews of my work, explorations of photographers I admire, and whatever else I’m learning or wrestling with.

  • Portfolio — the proof of work. A place to see the projects I’m focused on and the images that best represent where I’m at right now.

  • About — my attempt at defining who I am, creatively.

  • Contact — email, socials, the handshake.

What I want is less a blog, more an open journal — a place where I can learn, explore, study, practice, and share. It won’t be static. It should evolve over time, reflecting the process of someone working things out in real time.

That brings me to my current task: organization. Before I can move forward, I need to look back. I want to dig through my old photos, find patterns and themes, identify where I’ve improved (and where I haven’t), and start shaping the projects I want to work on next. My goal for next week is to have my files organized, a process in place to keep them orderly, and at least the beginnings of a portfolio page with a few of my favorite shots.

I’ve got a handful of half-baked notes in progress, ideas are flowing, and it feels like I’m finally moving in a direction that makes sense. Email signups will come later — once I know I can give them the attention they deserve. For now, if you want to follow along, Instagram is the best place to check in. Just know I unplug regularly.

This site is the start of something that feels…alive. I don’t know exactly where it’s going yet, but we’ll figure it out as we go. Nice to have you riding shotgun.

In any event, that’s the state of the union. Hopefully after this week, things will be organized and we can talk photography.
